BREAKING! The mayor of Alanya has cancelled concerts and entertainment events

The 19th Gökbel Oil Wrestling Festival in Alanya will take place between July 31 and August 3, featuring several firsts this year.

Alanya Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik stated: “We will hold our event within the framework of our traditional wrestling sport. We have cancelled the concerts and entertainment programs.”

Organized for the 19th time under the leadership of the Alanya Municipality, the Gökbel Oil Wrestling Festival will, for the first time, be held over four days. Many firsts are expected during the festival, which will open its doors with a fully renovated venue and roads. Activities will include football, volleyball, off-road driving, archery, horseback riding, adventure park, table tennis, open-air cinema nights, and various animation shows.

MAYOR ÖZÇELİK: CONCERTS AND ENTERTAINMENT CANCELLED

Due to recent events, Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik announced that the concerts and entertainment portions of the festival have been cancelled:

“We are organizing the 19th edition of the Gökbel Oil Wrestling Festival, one of Alanya’s long-standing traditions. We extended the event to four days to keep our ancestral sport alive and strong. However, as you all know, due to recent developments in our country, many events and festivals have been cancelled. We are also aware of this sensitivity. We will carry on with our event within the scope of the traditional wrestling program. Concerts and entertainment have been cancelled.

We made this decision as a sign of respect for the difficult times our society is going through. On this occasion, I extend my best wishes to Antalya Metropolitan Mayor Mr. Muhittin Böcek. He has always been a devoted supporter of the Gökbel Wrestling Festival, and with his passion for our ancestral sport, he played a significant role in keeping this tradition alive. We will deeply feel his absence this year.

We will continue to uphold our culture, unity, and solidarity through such traditional events, while maintaining our belief in the will of the people and the rule of law. For four days, we will create an environment at Gökbel Plateau where sports, friendship, and national values come together. I wish our wrestlers success and invite everyone to join us.”
