Number of Mixx Travel Victims Increasing in Alanya: Norwegian Tourists Claim ‘We Were Mistreated in Alanya’

Norwegian Tourists Claim They Were Mistreated in Alanya
Two young Norwegian women claimed they were left stranded in Alanya due to the bankruptcy of their travel agency. Fearing eviction from the hotel, Sara Helene Lund-Tønnesen (23) and Thea Emilie Nergård-Sørensen (23) said the hotel demanded double payment in order for them to stay.
The friends, who arrived in Alanya from Bergen on a package tour via Mixx Travel, found out on the third day of their holiday that the agency had gone bankrupt. They were summoned to reception and shocked when asked to pay double the amount they had already paid.
The return flights of the pair, which were booked through Norwegian Airlines, were also canceled. Norwegian officials confirmed that all tickets dated August 2 and onwards were canceled due to Mixx Travel’s non-payment.
Sara Helene said there were at least 20 other Norwegians facing the same problem in the hotel lobby.
Hotel manager Elvan Güneş said they wouldn’t throw guests out, but someone had to pay the bill.
According to the Norwegian Consumer Council, tourists must apply to Kammarkollegiet in Sweden within three months to claim a refund through the travel guarantee scheme.
Some former customers said Mixx Travel was still promoting tours via email just a day before the bankruptcy.
Another victim, Steffen Schei from Oslo, said, “We don’t want to deal with Turkish police, we just want to know whether we’ll have to pay.”
A Norwegian Airlines representative confirmed travelers would need to buy new tickets themselves and request reimbursement afterward.
