The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has launched a new regulation to bring idle agricultural lands, which have not been cultivated for two consecutive years, back into the economy. As of today, designated idle lands will be leased seasonally, and rental income will be paid directly to the landowners.

Lands Subject to Automatic Leasing

According to the regulation, landowners who do not want their land to be leased must submit an official request to provincial/district agricultural directorates within 45 days starting today. Otherwise, their lands will automatically be included in the leasing system.

Land Identification Commissions established within the Ministry have identified uncultivated lands using cadastral data, satellite imagery, and field inspections. As a result, approximately 300,000 decares of land (25,328 parcels) were identified as idle for the 2024 production year. Regionally, 4,300 decares were found in Antalya, 10,000 decares in Konya, and 1,650 parcels in Kayseri.

Leasing Process and Application Conditions

Producers who wish to lease these lands can apply in person with the "Agricultural Land Lease Request Form" at provincial directorates or online through the Agricultural Land Valuation and Acquisition Information System (TADEBIS).

Priority Groups: Residents of the settlement, NGOs, and professional chambers.

Bidding Method: If multiple requests are received, the right to lease will go to the highest bidder.

Rental Income and Inspections

Rental income will be paid to landowners without deductions. If inheritance procedures are not completed, payments will be deposited into special accounts in public banks with interest accrual. Leased lands may only be used for agricultural purposes; otherwise, contracts will be terminated.
