Tourism veteran Hüseyin Baraner warns about Turkey’s 2025 season and outlines strategies for 2026

Hüseyin Baraner, Secretary General of the World Twin Cities Tourism Forum, stated that the 2025 tourism season confronted Turkey with unexpected challenges. “Hotels in Antalya, Alanya and Bodrum opened the season with staff shortages. Turkey is no longer a cheap and high-quality holiday country but has turned into an expensive and uncertain destination,” Baraner said.

He highlighted staff crisis, security weaknesses, the image of an overpriced destination, and the loss of trust among European travel agencies as the main problems. For 2026, he suggested balancing price–image–security, investing in human capital, implementing cross-marketing strategies, and developing new markets.

According to Baraner, the “day-to-day survival approach” in tourism is no longer sustainable. “If Turkey takes the right steps, it can once again secure a permanent place among the world’s top 5 tourism destinations,” he concluded.
