Decision Made on the Old Hospital Building in Alanya: It Had Become a Crime Hub

The old state hospital in Alanya, long debated, is being demolished. A new Maternity and Children’s Hospital will be built in its place. Here are the details…

The demolition process for Alanya’s old state hospital, which has been a subject of discussion for years, has accelerated. The building, found to be earthquake-prone, will be demolished and replaced with a Maternity and Children’s Hospital.

Demolition Decision Accelerated

The old state hospital, which served between 1986 and 2017, has been officially condemned. After the opening of Alanya Training and Research Hospital, the old building was left abandoned, plundered by thieves, and occupied by addicts. A technical inspection by the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change confirmed the building’s earthquake risk.

Demolition Order Signed

Following the report, the file was submitted to the Demolition Commission for Old Service Buildings, chaired by the Antalya Deputy Governor, and the demolition order was signed. The Antalya Provincial Health Directorate will now launch a demolition tender. Afterward, the project for a much-needed Maternity and Children’s Hospital will begin.

Why a Maternity and Children’s Hospital?

Although Alanya Training and Research Hospital already provides maternity and pediatric services, emergency cases and judicial processes have had negative psychological impacts on children. A new hospital will prevent these issues and reduce the workload of the existing hospital. With this project, Alanya is expected to become a regional healthcare hub.

Healthcare Investments Continue

AK Party Alanya District Chairman Mehmet Şarani Tavlı said: “We are closely monitoring the process with our Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and other officials regarding the healthcare investments our city needs. There are no obstacles concerning the demolition of the old hospital and new healthcare projects. The tender process will begin right after the demolition.” Tavlı also noted that with the opening of Payallar State Hospital, the burden on Alanya Training and Research Hospital will ease, and additional projects such as an Oncology Hospital and new bed capacity are also on the agenda.
