“Idleness Fee” Debate Reaches Alanya’s Cafes
10 October / Alanya News

Across Türkiye, café owners are discussing the idea of introducing an “idleness fee” — charging customers who sit for hours after ordering just one coffee.
Now the debate has reached Alanya: café owners around İskele, Damlataş, and Cleopatra Beach complain about guests occupying tables for too long. Some suggest charging ₺50 for every 30 minutes as a “taximeter-style” compensation for their losses.
Not everyone agrees, though. Locals and students argue that cafés are not just about coffee, but also about atmosphere, socializing, and a space to work.
