In 2 Months: Whose Electricity Bills Will Rise in Alanya

Under a decision by EPDK (Turkey’s Energy Regulatory Authority), starting January 1, 2026, a new annual electricity consumption limit of 4,000 kWh per residential customer will be enforced nationwide.
Consumers exceeding this limit will be switched to the “last-resort” tariff (with higher rates), leading to a sharp increase in their electricity bills.
In Alanya, this change will notably affect:
holiday homes and properties used during tourist seasons;
households with heavy air conditioning, pools, and cooling systems;
small hotels and apartments located outside central zones, which often exceed average consumption.
Those who exceed the limit are expected to see their bills increase by 30–40% compared to current rates.
Some groups are exempt from the new regulation:
religious institutions;
families of deceased military personnel;
users who depend on medical devices;
dwellings under AFAD (disaster management) control and certain veteran categories.
The aim of the reform is to ensure more equitable subsidy distribution and to foster energy efficiency among households.
