In Alanya: Rising Debts, Farmers’ Lament and Deepening Rental Crisis

In the first 10 months of 2025, tradespeople in Alanya took on record loans fueled by lower interest rates, while farmers, squeezed by rising costs, report zero income. Meanwhile, rental prices have escalated into a crippling housing crisis.
Through three Credit and Guarantee Cooperatives, 1,559 business owners in Alanya secured a total of 950 million TL in loans, compared to 754.7 million TL year-over-year.
Farmer Özcan Güler, having spent 600,000 TL in production costs but earned zero income, publicly announced the deferment of his debts in a satirical protest. CHP deputy Aykut Kaya highlighted soaring fertilizer and labor costs.
Rent prices now range from 15,000 TL to 100,000 TL in some districts. Local residents claim landlords price rents based on foreigners’ purchasing power, marginalizing locals.
Political parties and neighborhood leaders are calling for urgent government action: social housing projects, rent regulation, price caps, and regulation of foreign tenants.
