Two major warning signs in Alanya: tourism stagnates, farmers indebted

The Alanya region faces serious challenges in its two main economic pillars: tourism and agriculture.
On the tourism front, efforts to spread holidaymaking across Turkey have faltered: 95% of foreign tourists stay in just six cities, and 87% of the flow is concentrated in only 23 districts (including Alanya).
This reveals that tourism remains narrowly focused rather than regionally inclusive.
Meanwhile, farmers in the region are in deep distress: according to CHP MP Aykut Kaya, due to rising costs and a 40% fall in tomato exports, many producers are surviving on debt.
The convergence of these trends — limited tourism spread and agricultural fragility — means the region must rethink its development path: extend the tourism season, support farmers, promote regional produce, and broaden the geographic base of tourism.
