Zelensky in Athens: Ukraine and Greece Finalize U.S. LNG Supply Agreement

During his official visit to Athens, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the completion of a major agreement for importing U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) via Greece—a move set to secure Ukraine’s energy needs during the winter.

At a joint press conference with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Zelensky described the arrangement as “a new, safe energy corridor” for Ukraine. The deal is valued at approximately €2 billion.

The supplies will be routed through Greece’s Revithoussa and Alexandroupoli LNG terminals, reinforcing Greece’s role as a strategic energy hub for Europe. Mitsotakis emphasized that the cooperation “enhances not only Ukraine’s but also Europe’s energy stability.”

Energy analysts say the agreement represents a crucial step in Ukraine’s efforts to reduce dependence on Russian gas. Expanded LNG access is expected to ease pressure on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure during peak winter demand.

The agreement is expected to take effect before the end of the year.
