At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, 102 athletes will represent Turkey

In the 100th year of the Republic of Turkey's participation in the Olympic Games, 102 athletes will represent Turkey at Paris 2024.

The Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The Games will feature 329 medal events in 32 sports, taking place at 35 venues with approximately 10,500 athletes. In addition to the 28 core sports on the Olympic program, breakdancing, surfing, skateboarding, and sport climbing will be included in Paris 2024.

Seventeen days before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Turkish delegation that will compete in the Games has been announced. A total of 102 athletes, consisting of 54 women and 48 men, will compete in 18 sports. Thus, for the second time since London 2012, the number of female athletes in our delegation is higher than the number of male athletes.

In shooting, Yusuf Dikeç, representing Turkey at the Olympic Games for the fifth consecutive time since Beijing 2008, will become the athlete with the most Olympic participations in the history of Turkish shooting. A total of seven shooters will aim to win Turkey's first Olympic medal in shooting.

In athletics, bronze medalist from Rio 2016 Yasmani Copello will compete in the Games for the third consecutive time. The athletics team will also include Tuğba Danışmaz, the recent European silver medalist in triple jump, Ersu Şaşma, the recent European bronze medalist in pole vault, Eda Tuğsuz, the javelin thrower who finished fourth at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and Necati Er, the triple jumper who finished sixth at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

In badminton, Neslihan Yiğit Arıkan, the first Turkish athlete in Olympic history (London 2012), will represent Turkey at Paris 2024 after Tokyo 2020, marking her third Olympic experience.

Burak Abay, the sole representative in cycling, will experience his first Olympics in the road race.

In boxing, the champion Busenaz Sürmeneli, Turkey's first female Olympic medalist, and silver medalist Buse Naz Çakıroğlu, who achieved success at Tokyo 2020, will again be among the medal contenders. In addition to the five women boxers who have won six Olympic quotas, three male athletes will also compete for medals in the ring.

In artistic gymnastics, the first-ever Turkish men's team will compete at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Ferhat Arıcan, the only Turkish gymnast with an Olympic medal, who won bronze at Tokyo 2020, along with Ahmet Önder, Adem Asil, İbrahim Çolak, who finished in the top eight at Tokyo 2020, and Emre Dodanlı, who will experience his first Olympics, will represent Turkey in Paris.

In fencing, Enver Yıldırım will be the first Turkish representative in saber since Munich 1972. Nisanur Erbil will also have her first Olympic experience as the first Turkish female saber fencer in history.

Turkish wrestlers, who have won 66 of the country's 104 Olympic medals (29 gold, 18 silver, 19 bronze), will compete for medals again, including Taha Akgül, who will compete in his fourth Olympic Games after winning gold in Rio 2016 and bronze in Tokyo 2020, and Yasemin Adar, the first female wrestler in Turkish history to win an Olympic medal, who will represent Turkey for the third consecutive time after Rio 2016. Additionally, Buse Çavuşoğlu, the reigning world champion, and Ali Cengiz, the reigning world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, will lead the women's wrestling team, which won five of the six Olympic quotas, at Paris 2024.

In weightlifting, Muhammed Furkan Özbek will represent Turkey at his second Olympics after Tokyo 2020.

In judo, Kayra Sayit, who finished fifth at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, will aim for a medal at Paris 2024. Alongside her, Mihael Zgank, who finished fifth at Tokyo 2020 and will experience his third Olympic Games with medal aspirations, will compete with eight judokas, the largest number of Turkish judokas in Olympic history.

In taekwondo, Tokyo 2020 bronze medalists Hatice Kübra İlgün and Hakan Reçber, as well as Merve Dinçel Kavurat, Nafia Kuş Aydın, and Emre Kutalmış Ateşli, who are ranked among the top five athletes in their weight classes worldwide, will compete at the Games.

In volleyball, the Women's National Team, which represented Turkey at the London 2012 Games for the first time and finished fifth at Tokyo 2020, will compete in their third Olympics, aiming to win their first team sport medal at Paris 2024.

In swimming, eight athletes, including Kuzey Tunçelli, the recent European junior and senior champion in the 1500 meters freestyle and the youngest athlete on the team (16 years old), will strive to swim in the first Olympic final in Turkish history and win the first medal.

In sailing, Deniz Çınar, who will compete in his fifth consecutive Olympic Games, making him the most experienced Turkish sailor at the Olympics, and Alican Kaynar, who will compete in the Nacra 17 class for the first time in his fourth consecutive Olympic Games, will be joined by six more athletes.

102 athletes from Turkey will compete in 18 sports as follows:

Badminton: 1 woman

Cycling: 1 man

Boxing: 5 women, 3 men

Artistic Gymnastics: 5 men

Fencing: 1 woman, 1 man

Wrestling: 5 women, 6 men

Weightlifting: 1 man

Judo: 3 women, 5 men

Rowing: 1 woman

Table Tennis: 1 woman

Modern Pentathlon: 1 woman, 1 man

Archery: 1 woman, 3 men

Taekwondo: 3 women, 2 men

Volleyball: 13 women

Swimming: 4 women, 4 men

Sailing: 5 women, 3 men

Total: 54 women, 48 men, 102 athletes.
