It turns out you have been doing it very wrong! This is how you should wash your fruits and vegetables

According to research by the US-based Environmental Working Group, fresh fruits and vegetables contain potentially harmful chemical residues. These chemicals come from pesticides and other harmful substances used during growth and harvest.

Nutritionist Jessica Shand states that washing with tap water is not enough to get rid of these chemicals. Shand warns, "Rinsing produce with just water is not the correct method to cleanse it from pesticides and other harmful chemicals."

So, What Should You Do?

Shand suggests cleaning fruits and vegetables at home with a simple four-step method:

Natural Detox Mixture:

Fill a clean sink with clean water.

Add one part apple cider vinegar to three parts water. (Alternatively, you can add one tablespoon of baking soda to two cups of water.)

Apple Cider Vinegar: Rich in antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, it's an ideal natural solution for detoxifying fruits and vegetables from toxic chemicals.

Baking Soda: A natural disinfectant that helps neutralize chemicals.

Scrub and Soak:

Soak fruits and vegetables in the prepared mixture for 15 minutes.

Gently scrub vegetables with a brush.

Let fruits soak in the mixture for 5 minutes.

Rinse and Dry:

Rinse the produce thoroughly with plenty of water.

Dry with a clean cloth.

Store in Glass Containers:

Store your fruits and vegetables in glass containers instead of plastic ones. This way, they will stay fresh for a longer time.

Choose Organic Products:

Shand adds that while the risks are reduced with organic products, they are never completely eliminated. Organic products can also be processed and exposed to chemicals. Therefore, it is best to wash all fruits and vegetables before eating them.
