A new era begins in electricity billing

The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has announced a shift to cost-based electricity tariffs.

Currently, the low-tariff consumption threshold is 5,000 kWh per year, but it will be lowered to 3,000 kWh by the end of this month. The new system will take effect from January 1, 2026.

Under the new policy, subscribers who exceed the threshold will pay based on actual cost — meaning significant increases for high consumers.

However, the aim is to ensure that at least 85 % of subscribers remain eligible for subsidized rates, so that low- and middle-consuming households continue to benefit.
